ForeFlight Mobile is an iPhone and iPad app for pilots. But it's not just used for basic navigation, it's a platform that assists pilots with all aspects of a flight. Check out these 10 very cool features:
ForeFlight developed their own airport diagrams for airports that don't currently have FAA diagrams. This nearly doubled their airport diagram database.
Pack is a pre-flight feature that, during an initial flight plan, prompts a download of current charts, data, NOTAMS, fuel prices, and the latest pre-departure weather information stored on your device for inflight access.
Hazard advisor is a terrain and obstacle avoidance system for the iPad. It highlights terrain and obstacles within 100 feet of your aircraft in red, with those within 1000 feet in yellow. It also gives notifications when approaching specific hazards.
Civil Air Patrol "Search and Rescue" plans have become a feature in ForeFlight, allowing for safe and easy rescue mission planning.
You're notified by ForeFlight when approaching runways, helping you reduce the risk of runway incursions and accidents.
When approaching an airport, ForeFlight gives you the option of choosing a runway you'd like to land on, and plans an entry procedure based on your specifications.
When connected to Stratus 2, ForeFlight Mobile 5.1 (or higher) will display air-to-air, ADS-R, and TIS-B traffic and FIS-B textual and graphical weather products.
Profile view for the iPad turns the hazard advisor into a vertical feature, allowing you to visualize your current or proposed track (with altitude) as compared to terrain and obstacle clearance.
This is one of the coolest and most helpful ForeFlight features. You can highlight the taxi route that you'd like to take (or are instructed to take), which makes read-backs simple. Your position and direction is displayed on the map with your GPS. Annotations for frequencies or weather are also available.
Documents including IFR Approach Plates and Airport Diagrams, among others, can be overlaid directly on top of your navigation map. And, there's a control that allows you to choose how see-through you'd like the plate to be. How cool is that?
Love ForeFlight? Pass it on and tell your pilot friends!
