Here are some of the best features in ForeFlight's latest update...
Checklists are critical to a safe flight. ForeFlight now incorporates electronic checklists, which allow you to access checklists from hundreds of different aircraft types. The bold checkmarks allow you to see which tasks have been completed, and which ones still need to be completed, eliminating the possibility of missing an item.
If you need some help determining the boundaries of your flight school's practice area, airspace, or even conducting pipeline patrol - this new feature is for you. You are now able to easily add in custom overlays to your map. You simply draw the overlay, and import it to your device.
Engine failure...it's a bad day. Or maybe not? If you enable the Glide Advisor feature, it allows you to see the gliding range in 360 degrees around your aircraft. It determines this through terrain and GPS data, as well as aircraft best glide airspeed.
Going on a night flight? If you're trying preserve your night vision, ForeFlight has incorporated a night theme for their interface, making it easier on your eyes in a dark cockpit.
Long cross countries can sometimes be filled with a lot of silence. However, if you have the SXAR1 portable Aviation Receiver, it's now compatible with ForeFlight, allowing you to stream SiriusXM radio.
If you have the SXAR1 portable Aviation Receiver, connecting it with SiriusXM radio allows you to access another sweet feature in ForeFlight 9. The surface winds features uses a series of predictions to estimate the surface winds in a particular area. This allows you to expect what types of winds you might encounter in the terminal area.
If you have documents that you would like to import to ForeFlight, your time has come. ForeFlight 9 now supports Microsoft Office, and allows you to upload Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoints, Word documents, etc.
If you have other devices connected to your iPad in-flight, whether it's your headset, external GPS or the SXAR1 receiver, ForeFlight will alert you if a device disconnects in-flight.
ForeFlight 9 allows you to keep track of your various certificates, including CFI renewal. It also includes an aircraft list, which allows you to see details of aircraft that you've flown, and the time you have in those specific aircraft.
