Ready for your next weekend trip? Here's what pilots love about flying in fall.
Colder weather means better performance for your airplane. We're not deep into winter yet, so it won't be bitterly cold for your preflight, either!
There's nothing quite like flying over a forest of fall leaves. It's best seen from the air. Use this foliage prediction map to see where the best colors are.
As fall progresses, storms become fewer and fewer. That makes taking your next long cross country a whole lot easier!
Frost the size of a grain of salt, distributed as sparsely as one per square centimeter over a wing's surface, can destroy enough lift to prevent your plane from taking off. Depending on where you're located in the country, you probably aren't dealing with a lot of frost on your airplane...yet.
Let's face it, ventilation in most small airplanes isn't ideal. There's nothing worse than being trapped inside a tiny metal box in the blistering summer heat with no AC. Fall temperatures are perfect for flying.
Want to make a weekend of it? Airports like Shenandoah (KSHD) are the perfect starting point for a weekend trip to see fall colors.
